My Thoughts on the 2016 Election

It’s been a while since the results of the election were announced but I decided to give it some time to sink in before I spoke out about it and offered my thoughts on the whole process. Personally, the team behind Donald Trump and even Trump himself are all brilliant. What they did was eerily similar to what Obama did in both of his campaigns. They went after what people are upset about. It obviously didn’t hurt to have arguably one of the worst candidates ever running against Trump on the Democrat side. But that’s besides the point. What Trumps team did was get a huge majority of voters to turn out and vote for him. A largely unaccounted for majority. One that up until recently, didn’t have much of a voice to latch onto in the political hemisphere. Doesn’t this sound way too familiar?

Trump promised change. He promised that he would shake up the political system and “drain the swamp”. He would abolish corruption in DC and make sure that the people of America were safe and that their best interests were looked after. On top of that, he started fear-mongering. He started angering those that generally didn’t vote. He based his whole political campaign on how corrupt Hillary was and with the help of the Internet, was able to completely demolish her. A lady who was arguably the most qualified candidate to run for president in quite some time lost to the most unqualified candidate of our lifetime.

I still wake up on some mornings and hope that it was all a dream or a sick prank and he’ll come out and just give it to someone way more suited for the job. Instead, he continues draining the swamp and adding all those creatures to be in charge of the next 4 years of this country. All we can hope for at this point is that he is able to keep foreign relations in tact and MAYBE get us in talks with Russia and China again. Foreign allies are all we have to save us from ourselves at this point. This small fingered, Twitter happy troll is our President whether we like it or not so it’s time we start rooting for him. For all our sakes.
