The Age of Uncertainty

As a kid growing up in the 90’s, I remember hearing over and over again “after high school, you’ll go to college, get a degree, and then get a job!” Easy as that. But what if you didn’t have the resources to make it to school? Were you just left out to dry? Was there really no way of succeeding in life after high school if that college “education” was never obtained? Even worse, what if you actually invested another 4-6 years in school only to leave college with a degree and no job? Those years, which could be argued as some of the most valuable years of your life to find out who you really are, could have just been wasted in a huge investment that just isn’t paying off the way it was promised to you. Everything that was “promised” to us as children wasn’t necessarily true. It’s not that we were lied to or that our parents knew shit was going to go sideways as badly as it did. But how can you account for the housing market collapse of 2008? Better yet, how could they account for the inflation of a college tuition since their time in school? A lot of adults always say that we’re just asking for “handouts” and not willing to work for anything. But how are we supposed to be successful in a 30 trillion dollar debt country with a failing economy only set up to benefit those at the top and crush those working from the bottom?
